The response to Hurricane Harvey and the flooding of East Texas was characterized by numerous grassroots efforts, most notably, Louisiana's Cajun Navy. Another grassroots effort providing support to affected schools, Principals Helping Principals, has already received over 300 requests for assistance. As emergency rescues were still taking place, Devin De Wulf settled into his backyard shed and artist-studio and began painting "Every Man a Hero". He wanted to thank the members of The Cajun Navy and help raise money for schools affected by the storm. “Despite the tragedy and sadness in Houston and East Texas – there are many inspiring examples of humanity, says De Wulf. With all the issues we face as a nation, it is inspiring to see these grassroots organizations come together and help each other. The most inspiring example of this is The Cajun Navy - hundreds of regular Louisianans with boats and big hearts.” With every painting or print you purchase, Where Y’Art will give 100% of the proceeds to Texas classrooms identified by Principals Helping Principals, starting with KIPP 3D Academy and Watkins Middle School of Houston, Texas. "We, as Louisianians know what it’s like to rebuild,” says Collin Ferguson, co-founder of Where Y’Art. “With the impending hurricanes upon us, we believe these grassroots efforts define the spirit and resilience of our region, people helping people where Every Man a Hero can be our universal battle cry.”
DONATE TO A MEMBER OF THE CAJUN NAVY Additionally, "Every Man a Hero" can be purchased and donated to members of the Cajun Navy as a thank you for their brave and selfless efforts. Just put 'Donation' in the Notes section at checkout.
Note: Last year, when flooding impacted central Louisiana, artist Devin De Wulf and Where Y’Art teamed up with The Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (APEL) to raise money for flooded classrooms through the sale of Louisiana People Stronger than Water. Nearly $5000 was raised, which went directly to teachers in three impacted schools. "Devin De Wulf and Where Y’Art were a great supporter and partner of our association's charitable efforts to support teachers during the 2016 Flood recovery.” - Dr. Keith Courville, Executive Director, Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana.
