Pangaea Ultima is a possible future supercontinent that resembles the supercontinent of Pangaea. Since the Earth's plates are always shifting(sometimes slowly and other times, cataclysmically), the land is never still, even though it gives us the impression that it is. Geologists have predicted that Pangaea Ultima could form in about 250 million years. I find it fascinating that 250 years ago, the Earth looked a lot like it will in 250 years from now, but it will look nothing like the planet we recognize today. This is the thought process that informed the piece.

Artist + Evan Koch
Follow this artistMy name is Evan Koch and I'm a lifelong resident of Louisiana. I've always had an interest in art as long as I could remember. My mother nurtured my artistic ability and pushed me from an early age to take art seriously. In 2014, I got my BFA in painting from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Since then, I've been a part of numerous shows, most notably two solo shows at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, LA. I also took part in 'Artists in the Park' at the Botanical Gardens in City Park in 2019.
My artist statement:
The earth exists in a perpetual state of motion, internally and externally creating and destroying. Within the contexts of art history and basic human perception, what we believe to be and refer to as landscape is an abstraction—an abbreviation, compression, and to some extent, acceptance within the artificial borders of sight, mind, and time. My work is informed by a fascination with the earth’s geological processes, by personal travels, and also by innovations in the fields of photography and art. I am interested in exploring and expanding the construct we refer to as landscape, as well as the ability of paint to represent my ideas.
